Katelyn Kanturek, PT, DPT is a Board-Certified Specialist in Women’s Health Physical Therapy and provides pelvic floor and orthopedic physical therapy care. She is specially trained to evaluate and treat bladder, bowel, and sexual dysfunction, pediatric pelvic floor, orthopedic conditions, and chronic pain. She also provides prenatal and postnatal physical therapy care.
EDS Healthcare in Illinois
Illinois lacks an EDS Society Center of Excellence and has no dedicated multi-specialty EDS program despite Chicago's large medical community. Individual providers such as Dr. Matthew Mandell in internal medicine see EDS patients, but there is no coordinated EDS center. Indiana University Health's EDS & HSD Clinic in Indianapolis, about 3 hours from Chicago, is the nearest Center of Excellence.
Chicago's status as an "EDS physician desert" means that even patients in the state's largest metro area struggle to find experienced EDS care. Downstate Illinois faces even greater challenges with very few providers familiar with EDS. Many patients travel to Indianapolis, which adds time and expense.
Finding Physical Therapy for EDS
When choosing a PT for EDS, ask whether they have experience with hypermobility and use stabilization-first protocols rather than standard stretching routines.
