South Dakota has no EDS Society Center of Excellence or dedicated connective tissue disorders program. Mayo Clinic Rochester in Minnesota is the nearest major resource. Sanford Health in Sioux Falls has some genetics services. The University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine has limited genetics resources.
South Dakota's vast rural areas and sparse specialist population create significant barriers to EDS care. The western part of the state (Black Hills area) is extremely isolated from any EDS specialist. Eastern South Dakota patients can reach Mayo Clinic Rochester in about 4 hours.
