Spiro Physical Therapy

About

I have been practicing for 13 years and working with patients with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome for 12. Over these 12 years my knowledge of how to best help patients with EDS has been shaped by my patients, other practitioners and any educational resources I can find. As a Physical Therapist my focus is on improving motor control and strength through neuromotor re-education, guided movement patterns, education and biofeedback. With this approach our goal is decrease in pain, improvement in proprioceptive awareness and regaining function. At Spiro patients are seen one on one for an hour and given individualized treatment programs. The clinic is out-of-network, but with the individualized approach we find that patients have more success more quickly resulting in a savings of time and often a savings of money as compared to a typical in-network Physical Therapy clinic. If you are interested, reach out for a free 20 minute phone consultation. I would be happy to hear your discuss how PT could help.

EDS Healthcare in South Carolina

MUSC in Charleston has a Division of Medical Genetics that evaluates connective tissue disorders including EDS. South Carolina does not have an EDS Society Center of Excellence. Duke University in Durham, North Carolina and Mayo Clinic Jacksonville in Florida are the nearest Centers of Excellence and specialized programs.

South Carolina's EDS resources are concentrated in Charleston. Patients in the Upstate (Greenville-Spartanburg) area, the Midlands, and rural parts of the state face significant travel to reach MUSC. Upstate patients may find Duke University in Durham more accessible than Charleston.

Finding Physical Therapy for EDS

When choosing a PT for EDS, ask whether they have experience with hypermobility and use stabilization-first protocols rather than standard stretching routines.
