About
Based in Columbus, Ohio, this rheumatology practice focuses on hypermobility and GI issues. The Nationwide Children’s Hospital Hypermobility Clinic is a multidisciplinary, family-centered clinic to evaluate and develop an individualized treatment plan to reduce joint pain and complications related to joint hypermobility. Our team consists of a rheumatology nurse practitioner, physical and occupational therapists, a psychologist and a social worker. We provide an initial consultation and treatment recommendations, which may included following-up with some providers from our clinic, or referrals to providers that are closer to your home. Our goal as a team is to help drive treatment planning and ongoing management and coordination of care. Please see the clinic hyperlink for more information.
EDS Healthcare in New York
The NYIT EDS/Hypermobility Treatment Center operates in Old Westbury and Central Islip, offering specialized rehabilitation and treatment. Mount Sinai South Nassau Chiari EDS Center in Oceanside focuses on EDS with Chiari malformation. Weill Cornell provides pain management expertise. New York Medicaid covers genetic testing with prior authorization. Wait times at major programs can be 6 months or longer.
Both EDS Centers of Excellence are on Long Island, leaving upstate New York significantly underserved. Patients in Buffalo, Syracuse, Rochester, and the Adirondacks face drives of 4-6+ hours to reach these programs. Wait times of 6 months or more are common. Rural upstate access is very limited, and telehealth is important for follow-up care.
Finding Rheumatology for EDS
Ask whether the rheumatologist uses the 2017 hEDS diagnostic criteria and has experience distinguishing EDS from other hypermobility spectrum disorders.
