Bethroot Doula Group

About

Bethroot Doula Group is a full-spectrum doula practice, providing physical, emotional, and educational doula support and advocacy for families the childbearing year. Full-spectrum doulas provide warm and affirming, nonjudgmental social support and advocacy during pregnancy, birth, loss or abortion, menses, and the postpartum period. Our practice serves all of Los Angeles County, including Pomona and the Gateway Cities, as well as Simi Valley, and we love to support high, low, and medium risk births and families planning home, hospital, and birthing center births. We provide community doula care to disabiled and neurodivergent parents, as well as abled and neurotypical parents, and we have a special interest in serving clients with hEDS, vEDS, and rarer variants of EDS, as well as those with HSD and other genetic hypermobile disorders, MCAS, SFN, autoimmune diseases, gastroparesis and IBS, and dysautonomia/POTS/OI/OH. Our doulas are fully vaccinated and keep up with our regular boosters. We commit to test for covid and flu when sick, and we are able to wear well-fitted masks for all care of clients who request them. In addition to serving cash-pay clients, we are contracted with Health Net, Kaiser of Northern California, Alameda Alliance, Contra Costa Health Plan, Health Plan of San Mateo, Partnership Health Plan, and FFS “Straight” Medi-Cal, and are in process of contracting with Kaiser of Southern California, Anthem, United Healthcare, LA Care, and Molina Healthcare. Please reach out to schedule a virtual consultation at any time. We look forward to working with your family.

EDS Healthcare in Pennsylvania

Penn State Health's EDS Program in Hershey is an EDS Society Center of Excellence. CHOP in Philadelphia operates both a Cardiovascular Connective Tissue Disorders Clinic and the Roberts Individualized Medical Genetics Center (Roberts IMGC). Penn Medicine in Philadelphia has additional EDS resources. The Pennsylvania Association of Genetic Counselors supports genetic testing access statewide.

Central and eastern Pennsylvania have strong resources, but western Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh area) and the rural northeast have limited dedicated EDS programs. Pittsburgh patients may find programs in Columbus, Ohio or at IU Health in Indianapolis more accessible than traveling to Hershey or Philadelphia.

Finding Rheumatology for EDS

Ask whether the rheumatologist uses the 2017 hEDS diagnostic criteria and has experience distinguishing EDS from other hypermobility spectrum disorders.
