I am a scientist, not a physician. I serve as a hub for patients. We are beginning a number of research projects examining treatments and profiles of those with EDS. We have a number of physicians in a variety of specialties and we are doing a lot of community outreach and education.
EDS Healthcare in Arkansas
Arkansas does not have an EDS Society Center of Excellence. The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock has a genetics department that can assist with connective tissue disorder evaluations. Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri is the nearest designated Center of Excellence.
Much of Arkansas is rural, with limited access to specialists familiar with EDS. Patients in southern and eastern Arkansas face long drives to reach major medical centers. Telehealth consultations with out-of-state EDS programs can help bridge this gap.
Finding Primary Care / Internal Medicine for EDS
Look for a PCP willing to serve as your care coordinator across multiple specialists and who screens for EDS cardiovascular, GI, and neurological complications at regular intervals.
