Ab (Abigail) Krumbein Somatic Therapy

About

We all deserve to feel safe and connected. Sometimes, overwhelming things happen that prevent us from feeling safe and settled in the world. In therapy, we support the strengths that have helped you survive and grow your capacity to move towards the life you long for. Whatever you are experiencing, be that anxiety, depression, or the pain of trauma or oppression, together we will collaborate to tend to what hurts and to nurture the vitality that exists inside you. I approach this process somatically, meaning we will listen for your sensations, emotions, movements, and memories as clues to guide the healing journey. I also believe we heal in relationship. I offer a place to explore your experience of connection and to practice how you want to relate with yourself and others. In my therapy practice, I specialize in helping sick and disabled people connect to themselves and their bodies. I am very knowledgeable about hEDS, and common co-occuring disorders like MCAS and POTS. I use this knowledge to help my clients come home to their bodies, learning tools to live well with illness. I work with sick and disabled people, queer, trans, and nonbinary people, folks practicing non-monogamy and polyamory, artists, healers, and activists. My style is warm, playful, gentle, and experiential. Please feel free to reach out for a free consultation to see if we feel like a good fit.

EDS Healthcare in New York

The NYIT EDS/Hypermobility Treatment Center operates in Old Westbury and Central Islip, offering specialized rehabilitation and treatment. Mount Sinai South Nassau Chiari EDS Center in Oceanside focuses on EDS with Chiari malformation. Weill Cornell provides pain management expertise. New York Medicaid covers genetic testing with prior authorization. Wait times at major programs can be 6 months or longer.

Both EDS Centers of Excellence are on Long Island, leaving upstate New York significantly underserved. Patients in Buffalo, Syracuse, Rochester, and the Adirondacks face drives of 4-6+ hours to reach these programs. Wait times of 6 months or more are common. Rural upstate access is very limited, and telehealth is important for follow-up care.

Finding Movement / Exercise for EDS

Look for instructors with specific hypermobility training who modify exercises to build strength within safe joint range rather than pushing flexibility.
