After 30 years developing and directing the UCLA pediatric pain and palliative care program, where I saw many young people with EDS, my husband Dr. Paul Zeltzer, and I formed Whole Child LA pain clinic in our home office in Encino. This also allows us to see patients until age 30 years rather than the 18 year cut-off for pediatrics at UCLA. Before Paul worked with me, he was a pediatric neuro-oncologist where he saw many complicated patients. At UCLA I saw many patients with rare diseases and complicated conditions. My pain clinic was seen as “the clinic of last resort” since everyone sent their most complicated patient to me. Thus what was complicated to others became quite understandable to me and not that complicated. Our success rate at WCLA is about 85% with our seeing the patients that have typically failed other doctors and treatments.
