Akasha Physiotherapy
We provide pelvic physical therapy for individuals with EDS who may be experiencing pelvic organ prolapse. We can advise through pregnancy/delivery what to do to avoid prolapse, as well as work during recovery. We also work with individuals with prolapse at all stages who are either trying to avoid surgery or trying to prepare or recover from surgery. In addition to prolapse, we work with those who are experiencing pain due to joint laxity in low back, spine, SI joints, and hips, whether during daily life or worsened during pregnancy. We provide relief of pain with manual therapy techniques, as well as customized exercise recommendations and guidance to improve overall stability without increasing pain.

Jessica Workman earned her B.S. in Physiology and Neuroscience from the University of California, San Diego, in 2009. She then went on to complete her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in San Marcos in 2012. During her time in physical therapy school, she discovered that she had been struggling with chronic pain caused by hypermobility. Jessica began her career in an outpatient orthopedic clinic in Thousand Oaks before transitioning to a mixed outpatient orthopedic and neurological practice specializing in vestibular disorders in March 2014. With a focus on treating complex neurological, vestibular, and orthopedic conditions, she utilizes Functional Manual Therapy, Craniosacral techniques from Upledger, and Visceral Manipulation from Barral. She is nearly complete with a Functional Manual Therapy Fellowship through the Institute of Physical Art. It was during her in depth studies into treating a broad array of complex systems such as airway/sleep disorders, connective tissue disorders, concussions, and enhancing athletic performance that Jessica developed a deep passion for treating individuals with chronic pain related to hypermobility, recognizing the unique challenges these patients face. Her approach centers on a holistic evaluation of the person and their environments and lives, collaborating closely with her patients their physicians and loved ones to help them return to the activities and lifestyle that bring them joy.
